NC-FIRST is an education and outreach program that trains public safety officials on how to interpret weather data and access real-time weather data through the NC-FIRST Weather Portal. This training can help public safety officials make more informed and quicker decisions during weather-impacted situations. NC-FIRST, which is modeled after a successful program in Oklahoma (http://okfirst.ocs.ou.edu/) that is an outreach project of Oklahoma Climatological Survey and Oklahoma Mesonet, has partners that include the National Weather Service, the State Climate Office of North Carolina, and the Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI).
NC-FIRST has two main components
NC-FIRST is currently funded by the state of North Carolina and is open to public safety officials across the state. For more information, contact Lisa Stillwell at RENCI firstname.lastname@example.org
